Ford has been teasing us with the hot-hatch Focus ST for the better part of the year, and it will be hitting dealerships in 2012. But it won’t be the only performance Focus that Ford will offer next year. Joining the Focus ST will be a turn-key race version, called the Focus ST-R.We covered a lot of the details  back when Ford first announced its Focus foray into the racing world. Now this souped-up compact has a price, and it’s a doozy; $98,995. That’s more than a 2013 Mustang Cobra Jet!

That’s a high price tag on a car that Ford hasn’t even released horsepower numbers on yet. From the factory the Focus ST is getting 247 horsepower from its 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine. That said, if what Car & Driver says is true, the Focus ST-R is designed to enter the ST Class in Grand Am racing, which generally has horsepower numbers of between 170 and 240 ponies. So don’t expect much, if anything more in the power department.

But as far as other racing bits go, the Focus ST-R has an all-new suspension, roll cage, racing seats, and has been completely stripped of anything uncessary. It is pretty much ready to hit the track. So yeah, $98,995 is a big price tag to swallow, but all the hard work is done for you; after you plunk down the cash, all you’ve got to do is race. Deliveries begin in late 2012.
