With the start of the American auto show season still a few months away, many automakers are focused right now on Frankfurt, Germany. In what is the premier European Auto Show, Frankfurt often sees many awesome cars and concepts that us Americans will never hear about, much less get.
This year, Ford has been rolling deep with a fleet of turbocharged cars and concepts. First came the Focus ST and Focus ST wagon, and now there’s also an EcoBoost-powered Formula car and the Fiesta ST concept.
The Fiesta ST is something we’ve known about for a while now, thanks to some good spy shots. Now we finally have the official debut of a real concept car, and we’ve got to say that the subcompact Fiesta looks mighty good as a two-door hatchback. The big wheels are also a major improvement over the ugly stockers. Under the hood is a 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine delivering 177 horsepower and 177 ft-lbs of torque, with an estimated top speed of over 136 mph. Not bad for a Fiesta!
But not nearly as fast as the Formula Ford vehicle, which also has a 1.6 liter EcoBoost engine making a little less power at 158 ponies and 162 ft-lbs of torque. But with less power comes less weight for this new generation Formula Ford vehicle, which is an entry-level class of open-wheel racing. Ford definitely has big plans for its EcoBoost engines, and we can’t wait to see what turbocharged goodness they have to offer us come our own domestic car shows.
