Ford Promotes Focus ST With X-Games Contest

For the better part of the past decade, Ford has given American customers its second-best version of its popular compact car, the Focus. What we mean to say is that here in America we were denied the all-wheel drive, turbocharged goodness that was the Focus RS, one of Europe’s most popular “hot hatchbacks.”

But Ford isn’t making the same mistake twice, already pledging to bring the much ballyhooed Focus ST to American and European car dealers. With a 247 horsepower 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine on tap you’d think that’d be enough to get peoples’ attention. But the Detroit Free Press reports that Ford is seeking to generate even more buzz for the ST by offering two lucky fans a trip to ESPN’s Summer X-Games.

Utilizing the “Focus ST Challenge,” Ford is allowing interested competitors to get behind the wheel of a virtual Focus ST and compete for the best times on the in-game track. The Focus ST Challenge will be set up at big auto shows across the country. The contest goes through May, at which time the best times will be drawn from a pool, with two lucky winners getting the five-star treatment at the X-Games this summer.

The 2012 Summer X-Games will be held in sunny Los Angeles, California, and Ford will no doubt have a big presence there. We imagine Tanner Foust will be on hand, along with other X-Game RallyCross drivers, a new motorsport that combines rally, dirt track, and stunt racing into a single sport. And Ford’s two winners will have a front seat at the action.
