Japan has always had a funky relationship with American cars. For one thing, high gas prices and tight emissions laws mean that the very best V8’s that America has to offer are all but off limits in Japan. Then there is the price after import, which can easily double, putting a once-affordable muscle car into premium luxury sedan territory.

Don’t believe us? Take a look at this advertisement Carscoop found for the very, very limited edition Japanese Ford Mustang V6 Sport Appearance Edition. Yes, they’ are getting their very own V6 special edition, and it’ll set you back $54,250 for the coupe, and a whooping $63,000 for the drop-top. That exchange rate is a bitch.

That is, if you can find one. Ford is shipping over just 25 of these special Mustangs, which have to be converted to left-hand drive, over to Japan. Ford has been importing Mustangs to Japan since the SN95 Mustang came out in 1994. The numbers vary by year, though often a couple of thousand made their way from the Land of the Free to the Land of the Rising Sun. There’s even a website for Ford Japan dedicated to the Mustang (click for a Google translate edition, some good Engrish there), and the V6 Sport Appearance package is the latest one to join the ranks.

It really isn’t anything special. You get special 18” rims, a choice between Performance White or Grabber Blue, a rear spoiler, leather seats and a leather wrapped steering wheel. For between $54,250 and $63,000 (depending on options.) It is sort of like the V6 “Mayhem” package, minus all the performance bits.  Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line Mustang GT Premium costs 5,700,000 Yen, or about $70,500. Ouch. Would you pay $70,000 for a brand new factory Mustang? Thank goodness we live in the USA.
