There are hundreds of different kinds of speed records that test vehicular top speeds under varying conditions and circumstances. While we’re all familiar with top speed runs and flying miles, but how about the half-mile? That’s not that far to go really fast, and back in 2000, Sammy Swindell set the Bristol Motor Speedway record of 138 mph in his World of Outlaws sprint car.

Now a super modified racer, a super bike, and a street legal supercharged Ford Mustang GT from Ford Racing will be attempting to break their own track speed records reports.

Swindell’s 138 mph record will be challenged by Brad Noffsinger, Mike Lichty, and Bryan Clauson who will compete in their own super modified’s and try to take down the record as part of Bristol Motor Speedway 50^th anniversary. The drivers will have one hour after the end of this Sunday’s Nationwide race to break the average top speed around the half-mile closed course. Scott Russell will tackle the two-wheel speed record on a Yamaha superbike.

What we are really interested in though is the street-legal, supercharged-from-Ford Mustang GT (pictured above). David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose will be piloting this 624 horsepower Mustang and trying to take down the street-legal half-mile track record. In addition to the supercharger, a racing suspension and other go-fast goodies from Ford Racing will be on the Mustang, but it will be 100% street-legal.
