Over the weekend, Southern small tire runner Brian Goss made the long awaited debut of his 25.3 spec Fox body Mustang in the popular Kooks Headers X275 category at the Holcomb Motorsports Spring Outlaw Civil Wars held at Steve Earwood’s Rockingham Dragway.
Goss’ new machine took sixteen months to build, with much of the process taking place on Saturdays when time allowed. The new machine raised some eyebrows over the winter after Goss posted a handful of photos of the construction process showing the removal of the floor to drop the body down on the chassis. Despite such a process not offering any known performance advantages other then the simplicity of the buildup, it was met with some criticism about following the spirit of the class.
Motivation comes from a 417 cubic inch, Yates C3-headed small block sporting an F3 ProCharger unit through an air-to-water intercooler. Goss has also bucked the bullhorn trend (no pun intended) by slapping a set of zoomies on this already righteously loud beast.
On its maiden voyage, the new piece ran a best of 5.28 on its fifth pass down the track before the weekend was ultimately cut short by some new car blues, but this immaculate new car is one that we certainly expect to see a lot of in the future.
