The return of the Ford Taurus came about after a brief hiatus, when Ford executives realized the Taurus name was one of the most-recognized in its class they moved quickly to revive the nameplate that was once the king of family car sales in the USA. That name recognition by the public also meant a many enthusiasts remembered the much-faster Taurus SHO from the late 1980’s and early 90’s. The SHO monicker also returned with the new Taurus to debut Ford’s new EcoBoost engine technology. While the Taurus SHO has been on the road for a few years now, tuners are still finding ways to bring extra power out of this reborn legend since it’s direct-injected technology changes the way tuners look at some options.

The Hennessey Performance Engineering MaxBoost kit for the Taurus SHO and its corporate cousin, the Lincoln MKS EcoBoost, turns up the volume on this big sedan, adding 80 extra horsepower and gobs of torque to an already sporty car. Hennessey takes a stock Ford Taurus SHO, with its 365 horsepower 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine, and works its magic to pull a few more ponies from the factory boosted mill. Among the modifications is a new cold air intake system, new piping for the turbocharger, engine management calibration, and a Corsa cat-back stainless steel exhaust system.

All told, the setup is good for 445 horsepower, an 80 horsepower increase over stock. This allows the big sedan to scoot from 0-60 mph in just 4.3 seconds, and fly through the quarter-mile in 12.8 seconds at 109 mph. Keep in mind this is a large American sedan utilizing all-wheel drive and a six-cylinder engine, pulling off performance times that are in the realm of major players in the two door sports car segment. We wouldn’t mind driving one of these Hennessey-tuned beasts to work everyday, we know the commute would definitely be more interesting.
