Without a doubt, the 2011 Mustang GT with its 5.0-liter V8 engines is one of, if not the best car ever built bearing the Mustang name. Fast approaching its 50th birthday, this Mustang has drivers and reviewers all over the country salivating at the thought of 412 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque starting at $30,495. It is a great price for a great car, one of the best to come out of Detroit in decades.
But is it better than a $150,000 European sports car? That is what Jason H. Harper says of the 2011 Mustang GT over at Bloomberg News.
Don’t get us wrong; we love Jason’s enthusiasm for the 2011 Mustang GT. But seeing as how we deal with muscle cars, not European exotics, we have a hard time comparing to the two cars. Jason however has no such hard time, claiming that when it came to choosing which car he would drive, he overlooked the $150,000 exotic from “overseas” in his garage for the Mustang. Granted, it was a fully loaded Mustang GT with the premium package, brake kit, and every other option (coming in at over $42,000). He never says specifically what exotic he overlooked, so it got us to thinking.
What car would you buy for $150,000? The Ford GT super car pops into our head almost immediately, but what about something a little more exotic? A Mercedes Benz SL600 costs around $130,000 and comes with a V-12 engine and of course, German opulence. A Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet costs just under $150,000, and it is the perfect mid-life crisis mobile. Jason cites his reasons being is that he doesn’t have to creep over cracks, and the Mustang feels fast and sturdy compared to expensive exotics. We think he has a point. There are literally dozens of other cars out there, so we want to know, from you; would you pass over an exotic car for a drive in the 2011 Mustang GT?
