With a legendary motorsports career spanning decades in many different forms of competition, it’s hard to imagine Jack Roush doing anything else with his life. He was born in Covington, Kentucky, moved to Ohio as a youngster, before returning to Kentucky to earn his undergraduate degree in mathematics at Berea College in Kentucky.
Since then, he’s captained racing teams that have seven NASCAR championships, won hundreds of drag races, and built an empire around Ford-based products in Livonia, Michigan – Ford’s backyard. Two of those NASCAR titles came with Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch behind the wheel of his machines in 2003 and 2004, along with four Nationwide Series titles and one Camping World Truck Series title and two Daytona 500 wins. His companies – Roush-Fenway Racing, Roush Industries, Roush Performance, and Roush CleanTech among others – employ well over 2,000 people geared towards attaining excellence on the track and off.
Roush Fenway Racing currently fields three cars in the Sprint Cup Series, driven by Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Greg Biffle, and Carl Edwards. Since entering NASCAR competition, Roush teams have attained 283 wins and 212 pole positions – an incredible showing for any car owner, but more special because Roush has always used Ford power under the hood.
Already a member of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, Jack Roush will be inducted into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2014. He’ll be inducted into the Owensboro-based Kentucky Hall of Fame this October alongside a number of other notable Kentucky-based racers and automotive customizers.
