It’s taken him all season to get back on track, but NMRA Pro Outlaw 10.5 racer Jim Brown is finally ready to hit the track again. Brown has been fighting new-combo bugs all season long. At the end of last year he made the decision to switch from his longtime nitrous power over to a ProCharger, and the learning curve has been steep. Parts failure has been a thorn in his side as well, derailing almost the entire 2012 season for his team. “We did make it to Florida at the beginning of the year, but we had issues with our cylinder heads – the intake seats kept falling out no matter what we did.”

Brown went on to explain the rationale behind the team’s changes. “We had so many issues with the old heads – we just couldn’t keep them together. They came apart twice – on two separate trips to Florida. We then tried something different and had even more issues upon assembly.  After that disaster we made the decision to switch to a set of C&C Motorsports Hemi heads on top of our 550-cubic-inch big-block Ford.  We’ve got one of ProCharger’s F-3R 136 superchargers on top and also made the change to alcohol for fuel,” he said.

They have been working closely with Steve Schmidt Racing Engines to get the program back up to speed, and the excitement in the Brown Family Racing camp to finally get back on the track after a year of setbacks can’t be understated. “I am excited. I’m tired of watching everyone else race while I sit at home. It’s my turn,” Brown says.

Jim Brown's F-3R 136 ProCharged, Hemi-headed, alcohol-ingesting big-block Ford will be back on track this weekend at the NMRA World Finals in Bowling Green.
