What is it with Hollywood and remakes? It seems like very few original ideas crop up these days, whether it be on the big screen or the small screen. Producers and writers like to dredge up entertainment relics and remake them for modern times, though rarely do these attempts end well. Take the recent Knight Rider remake, which had a lousy cast and lousy stories. The only good part was that K.I.T.T. was now a modern Mustang.
Your chance to own the only good part of that series is coming up, as Inside Line reports that the “Hero” car from the new Knight Rider is heading to auction. Get your wallets ready.
Released first as a made-for-television movie, Knight Rider became a full-fledged series in 2008, spanning all of 18 episodes. As there was no longer a Pontiac Trans Am to serve as K.I.T.T., the producers went with the tried-and-true Mustang, albeit heavily modified. Built by Cinema Vehicle Services, this car is fitted with numerous Shelby GT500 KR components. This includes the seats, Brembo brakes, front and rear bumper assemblies, the hood (which includes a working K.I.T.T. scanner).
Anyone going under the hood, however, will be sorely disappointed. Rather than the expected supercharged 4.6 liter V8, this star-car has the ancient 4.0 liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic. Disappointing, yes, but it makes the car the perfect candidate for a new 5.0 liter V8 engine swap. It has an estimated value of between $25,000 to $35,000. Would you pay that much to have K.I.T.T. in your garage?
