Almost three weeks ago, the Earl of March opened his driveway to the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed. This once-a-year gathering of petrol heads from across the globe celebrates acceleration. It’s the perfect place for some hooning, drawing the likes of Ken Block and other raucous rally drivers for a serious case of getting sideways.
Last year Lord March even saw fit to award Block with an award for his hooning antics, and Block came back to defend his title, as this video from the Monster World Rally Team shows.
Ken Block has been at the forefront of the hooning movement, which Australians initially described as driving in an “anti-social” manner i.e. doing burnouts, donuts, driving fast and recklessly. Sounds about right when referring to Mr. Block, the Master of Gymkhana and 2010 King of Hooning. There’s not a lot of sense describing the action in the video, other than…ya gotta watch this guy in action.
Block even took a few lucky souls along for the ride of their life in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC rally car. These brave passengers included recent rally sensation Bill Caswell, custom bike builder Roland Sands, and Lord’s March’s son Charlie (who seemed to enjoy himself the most of the three.) It should come as no surprise that Block was once again crowned the King of Hooning. It looks like the victory came with a bottle of bubbly too. Not a bad day’s work for Ken Block, King of the Hoons.
