Drinking and driving never goes together. But drinking and wrenching? Absolutely. There’s nothing quite like cracking open a cold one with a couple of friends while working on your car. And since beer cans are worth a few cents when recycled, amassing a huge pile of empty brewskis can be financially rewarding…unless you give those cans to your crazy artist friend for a “creative project.”
A young UK art student somehow scrounged up over 5,000 empty Budweiser beer cans to build a life-size replica of a Ford Mustang, Metro UK reports.
These pictures actually date back to 2007, when Budweiser was holding a contest giving away a classic ’65 Mustang. Jack Kirby heard about the contest, and set about assembling a 1:1 scale model of a 1965 Mustang…out of beer cans. We’re not sure if this was actually a rolling model (though judging from the underside supports, probably not.) It does however show how Mustang fever can lead to some incredibly creative projects.
Of course, such a project isn’t cheap, and the street value of this project (based on a nickel-per-recycled can) is well over $1,000. That’s a lot of money for a student to be spending on a beer can gimmick, but then again, how many of us can say we put our empty beer cans to any good use? Not many we reckon. And with all the talk about going green and recycling, this might just be the greenest Mustang ever built.
