In the world of high-cost, high-power sports cars, there comes a certain acceptance of risk. Because while some people like to pretend they are invincible, on some level we all know that one day everybody dies…some sooner than others. By exposing themselves to fast cars and high speeds on a regular basis, even the world’s wealthiest men cannot completely secure their own safety.
Jalopnik reported this morning on an unfortunate, uncertain tragedy involving a Ford GT supercar and a driver named “Jack”. Details are sketchy, though the tragedy seems clear.
According to a post on the FordGT Forums (which you need to be a member of to read), a driver named Jack had taken his modified Ford GT to the Mojave Air & Space Port. Jack was driving his car at speeds over 200 mph when the modified Ford GT reportedly went off the end of the runway and flipped over, crashing and killing the driver.
As Jalopnik is the only source of this story, it is hard to say what exactly happened without deeper digging. A commentator responding to Jalopnik’s post added that Jack’s GT was going a lot slower than 200 mph when it crashed, though just how much slower it is hard to say. It was going fast enough to flip 30 feet off of the ground, rolling and catching on fire before EMT’s could get to the driver. They tried to revive him unsuccessfully, and we always mourn for the loss of a fellow car enthusiast.
Life is short friends, but at least Jack died doing what he loved.
