Man Sells Winning Raffle Ticket For GT500

Just as we gearheads have our car shows and cruise nights to gather and talk about each others’ vehicles, so do gamers have their own conventions and events. One of the biggest and most popular events is QuakeCon, where gamers gather to play one of the first (and still best) shooters ever made, Quake. One of the draws are the many tournaments, where winners are entered into a raffle to win a big prize, like a brand new car.

This year’s grand prize were the keys to one of two 2011 Shelby GT500s. Unfortunately for one QuakeCon attendee, the ticket he sold to a member of the audience for $200 turned out to have the winning number. There is even a video (with NSFW language) of the event below.

The QuakeCon raffle was set up as such. Members took place in a gaming tournament, and the 100 top ranked players were given raffle tickets for a chance to win one of two GT500s. Considering most raffles of this size feature thousands of tickets, the chance of winning was statistically pretty good. Still, that didn’t stop one winner from selling his ticket to another attendee for $200. This seems to be a common practice, as thousands attend the event and just a few stick around to see who won the raffle.

When the winner is called and approaches the stage, you can hear some naughty language from friends of the would-be winner who just sold his ticket. The would-be winner got on stage as the winner talked about buying the ticket for $200. Pretty good investment, considering the GT500 has an MSRP of around $55,000. Maybe if the would-be winner invests his $200 wisely, he might be able to afford a GT500 in say, 50 years.
