For 2015, Coyote Stock racer Michael Washington has picked up a new sponsor in HP Tuners, and a new wrap to update the look of his Fox Mustang, as well. HP is making a big push into the Mustang market, and the company has signed on to be Washington’s primary sponsor for 2015 in NMRA Coyote Stock.
The irony of a tuning company sponsoring a racer in a class where tuning is prohibited shouldn’t be lost on anyone. However, HP Tuners needed a way of getting its name into the Mustang market, and what better way to do that than to put it on the door of a proven car. Plus, at races where tuning is allowed, HP Tuners will be able to show off what it can do.
Of course, JPC Racing is still a large part of Washington’s program, and he also relies on JLT Performance for a cold air intake, Real Speed Automotive (Dan Carlson) for dyno time, UPR Products for the front suspension, Team Z for the rear suspension and dropped front spindles, Tremec for a TKO transmission, and Spec for the car’s clutch and flywheel combination. Joe Albrecht at Thriftway Chassis in Hempstead, NY will be handling the chassis.
For the car’s shoes, Washington had good luck with Mickey Thompson ET Drag 26×10.5 stiff sidewall slicks from his Real Street days, so he will be sticking with them for 2015. As he goes down track we’ll be able to hear the Coyote at full song thanks to ARH headers and X-pipe, and Flowmaster mufflers with turndowns.
This will be Washington’s 2nd year racing in Coyote Stock, and he’s hoping to improve on his 8th place finish in points. One reason for that 8th place is he only made it out 4 races. He was on a cruise the weekend of the NMRA MIR event. Who does that?! Who goes on a cruise on the same weekend of a big race?! We’ll forgive Washington since he plans to make all six races this year, along with MIR races Imports vs Domestics, and Ford Fever. At the Imports vs Domestic and Ford Fever MIR races, we’ll be able to see what the car runs this year in “Outlaw” trim.
Last year his best pass was a 10.38 at 129 mph at the NMRA World Finals, and a 9.88 at 135 mph in “outlaw” trim. With the Coyote Stock class, Washington tells us the clutch plays a huge part in having the fastest car, but it’s all the small little details. “Paying attention to detail is the key to Coyote Stock,” Washington says.
We’ll be paying attention to Coyote Stock, and Michael Washington in 2015. Will you be?
