Differentiating yourself from the pack is what customizing your Mustang is all about. It’s about personalization – adding a touch of your own taste and creating a signature on the exterior to call your own. Sometimes, it’s the last step to a long and lengthy build, like this particular Mustang for example. This 2013 Mustang GT, with its Sterling Grey metallic finish, is powered by a VMP Performance supercharged Coyote engine; boasting more than 800 rear wheel horsepower.
The list of modifications on this Coyote is longer than a stretch of road, but the owner felt the car was always lacking a bit more personality to it. The car has lived most of its life as a street/strip build, with the occasional daily driving duties attached to it. Sure, it’s no grocery-getter – but this Mustang has seen its fair share of hauling around kids. With subtlety in mind, we hit up our friends at AmericanMuscle to checkout its latest exterior modifications available for the ’10-’14 S197 Mustang platform.
Since the silhouette of the ’05-’14 S197 generation Mustang is one of our favorites, we wanted to ensure the exterior changes we were making were not permanent in anyway; as we want to accentuate the shape of our ’13 Mustang GT in this case. We decided to opt for the pre-painted MMD quarter window louvers (PN 387389-J4), MMD side scoops (PN 387390-J4), and MMD rear spoiler (PN 390737-J4).
“All of the components only require either 3M double-sided bonding tape, or reuse the factory mounting locations,” AmericanMuscle’s Madeline Komar told us. “There are no permanent modifications required to install the new components.”
One of the aspects that really impressed us about these components is that AmericanMuscle paints everything in-house to factory spec. This means that every component which goes through its paint booth receives the same urethane paint base coat and clear coat that Ford uses.
Another aspect is application. With infused styling from Chip Foose, MMD uses the OEM CAD data from Ford during the development of these components. This ensures a near-factory fit and finish, leaving no undesirable gaps, and enhancing the quality of the results.

Good from a far, but far from good was the case for this Coyote’s original spoiler – a good reason to replace it with a new MMD piece indeed.
As one would guess, installing all of the new MMD components was a piece of cake. In fact, most of the installation time was spent just prepping the surface correctly for the install. Once we had that covered, it’s a simple ‘wax on, wax off’ process from there.
There are thirteen pins in all holding the trunk liner to the trunk.
After removing the pins, we removed the four nuts holding the spoiler to the trunk. Once the spoiler was removed, we use some rubbing compound (or quick wax like our Driven Racing Oil Racing Wax) to remove any dirt or debris.
If you thought installing the new spoiler looked easy, you’ll be happy to know that installing our new side scoops and window louvers was even easier.

While the surface of the components might look clean, do yourself a favor and clean it with the included alcohol wipes before you apply the 3M double-sided bonding tape prior to the installation.
Before we seated the new side scoops and window louvers, we made sure the surface area was also clean – as to ensure a proper seal.
We then applied the included adhesive promoters and firmly pressed the new components to the body.

The paint matching method AmericanMuscle uses is undoubtedly identical to our OEM Sterling Grey metallic finish.
While our reader’s S197 Mustang GT is in the shop receiving some much needed updates to handle all of that power, we weren’t able to get full beauty shots of this Coyote out in the wild – yet.
Stay tuned for more stories on this car in the future as we continue to add modifications and improved performance from AmericanMuscle.
