CLEVELAND (Feb. 3, 2011) – When Matt Pierson answered the phone on
Friday, Jan. 7, the last thing he expected to hear was that he was
chosen as the winning recipient of a new car through Prestolite
Performance’s Modern Muscle X campaign. The news could not have come
at a better time; after returning on Christmas Eve from a year-long
deployment in Afghanistan with the National Guard, Pierson was
currently without a car of his own.
Truly touched by Pierson’s story, the performance auto parts
manufacturer also provided $1,000 in Prestolite Performance parts to
his wife, Paula, to enhance her ’91 Ford Mustang. The couple
previously sold their Mustang for a down payment on their house, but
Pierson kept track of the car and bought it back a few years ago. He
is now working to restore it, which makes this additional gift that
much more exciting for the family.
In 2010, Prestolite Performance, a performance auto parts
manufacturer of brands including Mr. Gasket, ACCEL, Hays, Lakewood,
Mallory and QuickTime, charged its engineers with revamping three
automotive icons including a 2011 Ford Mustang, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro
and 2010 Dodge Challenger with products from the Prestolite
Performance family of brands. The goal was to award one winner the
car of their choice at the completion of the campaign. Fans could

After awarding Pierson the 2010 Camaro, Prestolite Performance will
be keeping the remaining 2011 Ford Mustang and 2010 Dodge Challenger
for product development and validation.
“Our goal is to make this car a reliable, NHRA legal street car
utilizing the latest product innovations from the MMX team,” said
Scott Stutler, product manager for the Modern Muscle X campaign.
“Installation of forced induction is slated for the end of February
to help us find the weak links in the factory ignition, transmission,
driveline, suspension and chassis. It will be making show appearances
throughout the country including the Hot Rod Power Tour as well as
select NMRA/NMCA events.”
Throughout the Modern Muscle X campaign, the 2011 Ford Mustang has
been installed with the following new products:
Lakewood’s Subframe Connectors that fit 2005 to 2011 models of the
Mustang and features an integral control arm mount brace. Another Lakewood product, the Rear Lower Control Arm Relocation
Brackets, compatible with years 2005 to 2011, feature four mounting
positions for a wide adjustable range for the instant center.
Prestolite Performance’s testing shown more than a full 1/10 of a
second in 60′ times when used with their tubular control arms.
With a complete direct fit, the Lakewood Battery Relocation Kit
requires no cutting or splicing of factory cables and includes a
vented stainless steel box and the exclusive ACCEL Lightening Cable.
ACCEL Coil on Plug Coils are plug and play and compatible with 2005 through 2010 models of the Mustang with the 4.6L 3V engine. They offer up to 15 percent spark energy for consistent and strong ignition performance under higher RPM and load conditions.
Mr. Gasket’s Ultra Seal Exhaust Gaskets are the cure for annoying header leaks on the venerable 4.6L 2V and 3V engines. The high temperature graphite facing and steel core conforms to surface irregularities and provides excellent heat resistance.
Stutler also said that during the campaign, the Modern Muscle X team
completed before and after testing of the rear suspension when the
vehicle was completely stock. The Mustang got a 1.906 second 60′ time
with stock attributes and the factory M&S-rated tires at 30 PSI. To
