Around the world, the leading cause of death for young people is traffic accidents. Over 400,000 people between the age of 10 and 24 die every year in car accidents, and millions more are maimed and disabled. Inexperience behind the wheel, lax safety standards in developing counties, and lately distracted driving takes a huge toll on the teen and young-20’s population. The appeal of fast cars to young guys means that inevitably, a few muscle cars are bound to get caught in the crossfire.
The Pocono Record reports that two men, both 19, were taken to the hospital this morning when there Fox-body Mustang collided with a semi-truck. Judging from the look of the accident, they are lucky to be alive.
The poor Mustang is absolutely smashed from the collision, with most of it stuck under the front of the semi. The roof is crinkled, and the entire car is absolutely crunched. There don’t appear to be any deployment of the airbags either, meaning this must have been a pre-92 Mustang as airbags were mandated in all cars after that. As a result the passenger in the Mustang had to be flown to the hospital for severe facial lacerations. The driver pf the Mustang apparently received less-serious injuries and the driver of the semi was uninjured. The semi truck may have pulled out in front of the Mustang, and these vehicles don’t have the best brakes either.
Being that it was a Mustang, there’s a good chance speed was involved. Still, this 20-plus year old Mustang held up to the collision rather well, and these two young men look like they will get another shot at the whole driving thing.
