Now, we may be big fans of muscle cars, but we can appreciate a well done performance car, no matter its make. And we’re not the only ones. More and more these days, we’re seeing American engines end up under the hoods of classic imports, and there is a lot more crossover between brands than say, fifty years ago.
This has resulted in all sorts of interesting and creative hybrids, like this cross between a Ford Mustang and an Acura Integra. Mustang Evolution reported on this Modded Mustangs thread where a fellow named Kimo is apparently putting together his two favorite cars in a most unique fashion.
Many import “performance” cars unfortunately come equipped with front-wheel drive, including the Acura Integra. There were others, like the Mazda RX-7, that did have rear-wheel drive, making it a natural candidate for a V8 engine swap. The Integra? Not so much. In the thread, he even admits to being a Honda guy, but was inspired by a similar story of a Corvette-powered Civic. So he did some research and found that the 1994-98 Ford Mustang had the same wheelbase as an Acura Integra. So he bought a 1997 Cobra, cut it up, and installed the Acura body on it.
He basically tore apart two perfectly good running cars, to make one…supercar? We’ve got to admit, it would be a bit disconcerting to pull up next to an Integra, and hear the rumble of a V8. There are apparently still a few kinks to work out, as one might expect with a project like this. But thumbs up for being different dude.
