The rumor mill is working overtime lately, churning out details big and small regarding the 2015 Ford Mustang. Some of the latest rumors have focused on the looks of the 2015 Mustang and what its engine options will be, as well as hypothesizing that the Mustang will replace the Ford Falcon in Australia beginning in 2016.
Australia could be playing an important role in the development of the 2015 Mustang, with Wheels Magazine of Australia penning an article that supposedly reveals new details on the next-gen ‘Stang. Mustang6g.com broke the news of what is the latest round of rumors and speculation from the automotive press.
While Wheels delivered yet another Mustang rendering speculating what the 2015 ‘Stang will look like, we’re more interested in the details Wheels lays out. While it is already rather well established that a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine will be an option, Wheels claims this engine will have just 248 horsepower, while the 3.7 liter V6 carries on with 308 horsepower.
Wheels also says the 5.0 will carry one with 429 horsepower, as will the supercharged 5.8 liter V8 found in the Shelby GT500. Considering that Ford just began production of this engine a couple of years ago, it makes sense to carry over the supercharged V8. Those engine details contrast differently with ones we reported on earlier this year, as well as rumors of the GT500 model being replaced with a GT350.
Other details include a six-speed manual and automatic transmission, with a 10-speed automatic supposedly in the works as well. According to Wheels the 2015 Mustang will be revealed in January at the NAIAS Auto Show in Detroit, with the official launch of the next-gen pony car in April of 2014. This makes sense to us, although we’re hoping the new car goes on sale in time for it’s 50th anniversary. According to Wheels though, production won’t begin until July, meaning the first units won’t hit dealerships until the fall. We’re not sure Ford will wait that long as the Mustang has traditionally been a spring-launch vehicle. It might be possible that the car wouldn’t be available in right hand drive for such markets until this fall, thus the report from Wheels. Once again only time will tell what rumors are true, and what are just mere speculation.
