During our visit to Kansas City and the Aeromotive facility a couple weeks ago, we provided a little sneak peek at the makeover being given to company President Steve Matusek’s twin-turbocharged Ford Mustang Pro Modified entry, and we promised you some “after” photos once the paint work at Liquid & Powdercoat Finishes was complete.
In a departure from the Aeromotive themed paint scheme campaigned last season and on his previous Mustang, Matusek this time around has re-created the limited edition BOSS 302 Laguna Seca Ford Mustang, complete with carbon fiber-esque side and hood striping and grille and low fascia design.
Matusek has added some personal touches to the new Laguna Seca scheme as well, including bugs adorned with his competitors’ logos smashed on the grille and the words “RY T2 500” ( meaning Roush Yates Twin Turbo 500 Cubic Inches) in place of the BOSS 302 signage behind the front fenders.
Matusek and the Aeromotive team received their freshened 500 cubic inch bullet, featuring hemispherical Ford Pro Stock cylinder heads, from the Roush Yates shop last week and quickly went to work getting everything assembled to head South for testing in Bradenton, Fla. before taking part in the NMRA season opener this weekend on an exhibition/testing basis.
The Aeromotive team is expected to have a breakout season this year after hiring veteran doorslammer champion and turbo tuning guru Chuck Samuel last November to serve as the new crew chief, and with a full slate of the races on tap – including the entire 10-race NHRA Pro Modified schedule and select PSCA and NMCA events – Matusek and company will certainly be among the team’s to keep an eye on in Gainesville in two weeks.
