The reborn 5.0L Mustang has been on the market now for nearly a year and a half now, and enthusiasts have already flogged these unmatched new Pony cars to impressive performances on the racetrack and will continue to do so. But thus far, few legitimate places to compete with the 5.0L Coyote powerplant have existed; but as the preeminent Ford and Mustang racing series, the NMRA is aiming to rectify that with their new Coyote Stock category for 2012.

Coyote Stock is designed specifically for 1954 and newer Ford vehicles powered by the 5.0L Coyote engine, and is intended to keep costs in line by using the production OEM sealed Ford Coyote engine and factory Ford Racing installation kit. Thus, such a class will provide all-run, heads-up racing on a .400 Pro tree and a sportsman ladder at an affordable price.

The NMRA has released the preliminary rules for the Coyote Stock category, which are available in PDF form on the NMRA online forum. The seven page document walks through all of the regulations proposed for the class – and there are many. When the class overview explains the use of sealed OEM engines, it means it, as virtually any modification of the original powerplant is expressly prohibited. However, minor aftermarket adjustments in the suspension and drivetrain departments are allowable and will separate the winners from the losers in this tightly restricted class.
