Many an actor has tried to make the transition from thesbian to race car driver, though few have done it successfully. Among them are legends like Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, and Patrick Dempsey, who is in his fourth season of racing in the Grand Am Rolex Series. And as it turns out, all that on-track training paid off in a big way this past week.
TMZ reports that Dempsey was the first person on the scene when a young man roll over the Ford Mustang he was driving. Dempsey is credited with helping pull the youth from the wreck.
The accident occurred on Mulholland Drive, near Dempsey’s Malibu home. Teenager Weston Massett was driving his Ford Mustang when he rolled it several times on the windy, twisty roads of Mulholland. Dempsey and several other men rushed to the accident; Dempsey reportedly even brought a fire extinguisher, no doubt part of his on-track training.
The teen was airlifted to the hospital, suffering a concussion and a stretched optic nerve. Dempsey even called Massett’s mother to let her know her son was alright. When the teen opened his eyes, he reportedly asked Dempsey, known for his work on Gray’s Anatomy, if he was famous.
The actor replied “I’m a doctor.” Oh Dempsey.
