Last week Performance Autosport, which has won the NASA American Iron Championship two years in a row, unveiled a new look for its Mustang RTR race car. Along with a new suspension setup, the team debuted its sleek, bold-new livery at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia to many compliments. But racing is about speed, not just looks, and this weekend the Performance Autosport proved its good-looking Mustang has the chops to back up the car’s racy looks on the track.
The Performance Autosports blog reports that the team was able to walk away with a win, and a runner-up position in the two races that weekend. That’s a strong finish for the third round of the American Iron Championship.
But initially the team had trouble dialing in the Mustang RTR, coming off of their last race at the much-faster track at Virginia International Raceway. So the team got in touch with Filip at Cortex Racing, who gave them the info needed to adjust the Cortex Racing Precision Suspension setup the team recently added to their Mustang RTR.
This helped loosen up the Mustang, and driver Chris Corbetto was able to pilot it to a first place finish in Saturday’s event, after qualifying in 5th place. Sunday’s race was a total washout, and despite qualifying in second place and fighting for the lead all race, Corbetto was forced to settle for the runner-up position to Steve Kent.
A first and second place finish over a weekend of racing isn’t anything to complain about. Looks like the new livery might be good for more than just looking awesome.
