Earlier this year, the super beast of a Ford Mustang was unveiled at the New York Auto show under the Shelby name, the 2012 Shelby 1000. Two different options are available, one with a standard trim at 950 hp and the second being a track only version putting down a ridiculous 1,100 horses. This insane new Shelby features a bunch of upgrades in regards to performance with a 9-inch rear end, full suspension upgrade, larger brakes for incredible stopping power, and a lightweight driveshaft made out of carbon fiber.

Thanks to MustangsDaily, we have some photos of the first complete Shelby 1000 in all of it’s glory as it was proudly displayed at the Orange County Barrett-Jackson auction. The Shelby looks awesomely stealthy in Sterling Gray and complete with black wheels, yet pretty modest compared to the one unveiled at the New York Auto show. However, that was the intention. As stated by company president John Luft when it was last displayed in April, “In the development sessions on the Shelby 1000 we sat there and thought that we should let this vehicle be understated as it relates to styling cues and identity and let’s let it speak for itself when the guy puts his foot into it.”

Carroll Shelby has stated before his passing that he was more involved in the development of the 200-mph Shelby 1000 than any other vehicle produced by Shelby American. Shelby drove the 800 hp Super Snake at SEMA last year and instead of praise, he asked when a 1000 hp version will be produced. Well, here it is!
