While we love to talk cars, sometimes a we need a nice break from reality. That’s where video games come in. It is amazing to think how far gaming has come in just a few decades, now rivaling even Hollywood in both budgets, and profits. A game companies are getting clever, figuring out more ways to squeeze consumers for money, and offering incentives for ordering a game before it has even come out.
Electronic Art’s Need for Speed franchise has been around for a long time, and the next game in the series, called The Run, has released its debut trailer. Mustang Evolution reports that if you pre-order from Gamestop, you will be gifted with a virtual BOSS 302 Mustang. Order a special edition version of the game, and you can also drive the Shelby GT500 Mustang, which features prominently in the ad campaign and possibly even on the box art.
Unlike many Need for Speed games, which are light on story, The Run appears to have an epic cross-country race at the center of the racing action. Apparently an illegal race from New York to San Francisco is the only way for your character, “Jack,” to get his life back. Along the way you’ll be dropped into some pretty fancy cars. If you’re smart enough to pre-order Need for Speed: The Run from Gamestop, you will be given an in-game reward of a classic BOSS 302 Mustang…as well as a BMW M3 GTS. But we’re all about the classic BOSS, and we wouldn’t trade it for any of the other exclusive deals.
Well…except maybe the Shelby GT500 that you get when you buy a limited edition version of the game. In addition to the Shelby, the limited edition also grants you access to a Camaro ZL-1, Lamborghini Aventador, and a Porsche 911 Carrera among others. Just give us the keys to the Mustangs, and we’ll take it from here.
