ProCharger-Boosted 2018 Mustang Belts Out 846 HP!

Revving to 7,400 RPM and burning E85, the MAK Performance 2018 Mustang GT auto belted out over 846 horsepower and 598 lb-ft of torque at the rear wheels courtesy of a ProCharger P-1X and a supporting cast of bolt-ons from JMS, DeatschWerks, and MAK — plus the requisite custom tuning.

Things change fast these days. When we last checked with MAK Performance, Willie Diaz and Adrian Gomez were hard at work improving the performance of the second-gen S550 with ProCharger boost. Burning 93 octane with just a splash of 100-octane insurance supplied via upgraded 47 lb/hr port injectors, the outfit’s 2018 Mustang GT auto converted 656 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque in 10.8-second e.t.’s. Now the car is making more power — a lot more power!

Making a leap from the 600-horsepower range well past 800 ponies obviously required some upgrades, but they weren’t as significant as you might imagine. The secret to release more power from MAK intercooled centrifugal supercharger was simply feed it a steady supply of E85!

Key to pushing the dual-fuel Gen 3 Coyote from the 600-horsepower range into the 800s under boost was an ample fuel supply. Willie Diaz and Adrian Gomez at MAK Performance modified the factory fuel hat to accept a high-flow DeatschWerks DW400 fuel pump in place of the factory unit. Paired with a set of DeatschWerks 1,000cc port fuel injectors, the revised system supported running E85, which resulted in the numbers you see here.

UPR Products oil separatorThe MAK team had previously installed OEM 47-pounders in place of the small port injectors on the dual-fuel Coyote and turned up the fuel pump with a fuel pump voltage booster, a move to high-octane corn necessitated a quantum increase in fuel volume.

“The only changes were the DeatschWerks 1,000cc injectors and DW400 fuel pump (PN 9-401-1001) with factory fuel pump hat modified by us and E85,” Willie explained. “We are still running the JMS FuelMax also. We pegged the 47 lb/hr port injectors when we went to E85.”

With a flat torque curve peaking out at 598 lb-ft and a power curve that looks like a rocket launch blasting out 846 horsepower up in the 7,400-RPM stratosphere, the MAK Performance ProCharged 2018 Mustang has to be an absolute blast to drive. It should be fun to see just how much this combo can improve on the 10.80 it ran with 656 rear-wheel horsepower.

Obviously the ample fuel supply required some changes to the calibration as well, but what’s impressive is the new rear-wheel numbers were attained at the same 10-psi level as the previous gasoline-burning numbers, so there is likely still more on the table as the MAK crew keeps leaning on the latest Mustang.
