Three great American icons, Ford Motor Company, Carol Shelby, and Barrett-Jackson joined forces in 2008 to create a limited edition Mustang Shelby GT. On the wish list of every car collector worldwide, a more desirable pony could have not been envisoned for the Mustang collector. Look for Shelby American to roll serial #01 of this limited edition ride onto the block at the Barrett-Jackson Reno-Tahoe auction. The event taking place in Reno, Nevada beginning July 31st and runs through August 1st.
On hand at the event will be an international audience from around the globe, looking to add this rare pony to their collection. One of only ten convertibles with a manual transmission serial #01 is an extremely rare find for the car enthusiast.
The Barrett-Jackson Shelby GT is the most exclusive build to date of the Shelby GT series. Upon release of the black and red striped convertible, this special edition pony was limited to only 100 badged and serial numbered cars. Available in both coupe and convertible body styles the first of the series was available through Arizona Region Ford dealers. A donation of $250 was made to the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation with the purchase of each car.
The special edition ’08 GT is powered by a Ford Racing V8 engine which features a high flow exhaust system that includes X-pipe crossover. Gear changes come via a 5-speed manual transmission with a Hurst short-throw shifter. Producing 319 HP with 330 lb. per feet of torque. The special edition GT is also sporting a Ford Racing Handling Pack with special-tuned dampers, unique sway bars, and a 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly. Ride height was dropped and a front strut-tower braced added.
Unique interior and exterior features include 18-inch alloys, special badging, a Shelby Cobra hood scoop, hood pins, side scoops, a billet grille with the iconic Mustang pony, light bars on the convertibles, LeMans hood and side style stripes, with a full black interior trim in the cabin finishing off with a Shaker 1000 watt stereo system.
This one of a kind horse could break records once bidding commences. With serial #01 maintaining the genuine Shelby pedigree, this will raise the value among collectors who are willing to pay top dollar for this limited edition Mustang.
