An integral part of the late-model Mustang heritage, Steve Saleen has been keeping himself the past few years. After leaving the company that bore his name, Saleen founded SMS Supercars, continuing his tradition of high-powered American muscle cars. Now, fresh off a court victory granting him control over his old company, Steve Saleen has wasted no time announcing new names for his new lineup.
Mustangs Daily was on hand at the Fabulous Fords at Knott’s Berry Farm show this past weekend, where Saleen showed off some old vehicles with new names, a small taste of what is to come.
Saleen took control over the Saleen, Inc. just a few weeks ago, and he wasted no time getting down to business. Immediately Saleen announced that he would be bringing his SMS cars under the Saleen flag, which we can only assume means that the short regin of SMS Supercars is drawing to a close.
That also means taking in the current line of Saleen Mustangs, which go by the White, Yellow, and Black Label moniker. Saleen announced that the new Saleens would be badged 302 4V, 302 SC, 302 SSC, and 302 X, and some of the new badging was on display along the old SMS cars. No details were announced on what each package entailed, though we can assume that the 4V package is naturally aspirated, while the SC and SSC boast some kind of supercharger. As for the X or “Extreme” model, who knows who Steve Saleen has in store.
With Steve Saleen back with the company he founded, things are looking bright for fans of his work. For now we must wait to see what Saleen has in mind, though we are sure he will not disappoint with anything less than the best.
