Over the last couple of seasons, Sean Lyon has made an enviable name for himself behind the wheel of his stunning and state-of-the-art Fox body Mustang in the NMRA Drag Radial, X275, and other radial tire racing venues with unparalleled consistency (and several national records along the way). As we stated in our Radial Race Trick of the Trade article published in September, you’d better plan on outrunning Lyon, because his Panhandle Performance ride doesn’t stumble on racetrack very often.
When we spoke with Sean in preparation for that article, he informed us of his intentions to part with his beautiful yellow Fox at the conclusion of the racing season, and with that time of year upon us, Sean has kept his word. And now, this race car that runs like it’s on a set of rails pass after pass is set to find a new home and make some knowledgeable buyer a contender.
Lyon’s Mustang, built by Mike Duffy using a Team Z Motorsports chassis, is powered by a turbocharged Small Block Ford built by Panhandle Performance, back with a Neal Racing transmission and Coan Racing torque converter. As per the listing on Yellow Bullet, the car will come packaged with everything one might need to go racing, including a spare set of front and rear wheels, spare driveshaft, backup starter, and the works.
Lyon has been as quick as 7.47 at a booming 193 miles per hour in the quarter mile with this machine and 4.89 at 150 and change in the eighth. And truth be told, this is one hell of a car for the $75,000 asking price.
