Ol’ Carroll Shelby has been in the hot rod and performance car industry for a long time now. His first and most memorable car, was the Shelby Cobra, which took a light body and stuffed a big engine into it. An entire kit car industry sprang up around the Cobra, but Shelby himself is still producing exciting new cars based on the Ford Mustang to this day.
In fact, 2012 is Shelby’s 50th year in the business. And to celebrate, Shelby is creating a host of special 50th anniversary Mustangs, ranging from $19,995 V6 packages to the $60,000+ Shelby Super Snake with up to 800 horsepower.
50 years is a long time, so Shelby wants to make the package available to a whole host of Mustang enthusiasts. For those stuck with the V6 Mustang, the package starts at $19,995, and offers handling, interior, and exterior modifications to let the world know that you’re rocking a special Shelby. Step up to the 525 horsepower GT350 package, and you get a supercharged 5.0 engine, more handling improvements, a plusher interior, and the knowledge that you’re rocking a modern legend. The GT350 package starts at $59,995.
Need more power? Then the Shelby Super Snake 50th Anniversary package is for you. It offers a supercharged 5.4 liter engine with either 650, 750, or 800 horsepower on tap, depending on how much you want to spend. Pricing also starts at $59,995, but can go much higher. All packages do not include the base cost of your Mustang of choice, and will be limited to just 50 of each.
A 50th anniversary comes around but once in a lifetime, true? Who knows what these special Mustangs might one day be worth.
