Steve Saleen’s name is synonymous with Mustang performance, even though he no longer has anything to do with the company that bears his name. Rather he heads his new endeavor, SMS Supercars, which builds “lifestyle” cars for those who want to go fast. Saleen has made a number of allies along the way, including the Sturgis Mustang Rally.
In fact, Steve Saleen and SMS Supercars teamed up with the Sturgis Mustang Rally to give away a one-off 2012 Mustang 302 Convertible in a classic Saleen color, Lizstick Red. Mustangs Daily was on hand with the story and these snazzy photos.
The SMS 302 Mustang convertible hosts a wide array of features from the SMS Supercars catalog. Among these is an Airaid intake, a custom tune, and a BOSS 302 intake manifold from Ford Racing. Saleen claims that with these mods and a tune, the SMS 302 Mustang makes 500 naturally aspirated horsepower. We sure he means at the flywheel.
Aside from the engine add-ons, the SMS 302 Mustang also features an SMS body kit and 20-inch chrome wheels along with the “SMS” banner. On the inside it is all leather and Alcantara with tasteful upholstery upgrades. And lest you think they forgot the suspension, 14-inch rotors, a S4 suspension, and other improvements ensure that this Mustang handles the road. We wonder what SMS will bring to the 2012 Sturgis Mustang Rally?
