There is a reason why the Ford Mustang has stuck around for forty years, and that is because the Blue Oval has stayed up to date with the design of the times. No two generations of Mustangs look alike, and Ford is constantly refreshing its pony car to reflect the styles of the day. This constant refreshing has ensured stable Mustang sales for decades using this strategy. Even with the big 5-0 just a few years away, Ford figures that’s still time for just one more refresh before the all-new Mustang hits the road.
Forum member Stangpilot007 caught these pictures of a Mustang test mule driving in Dearborn, Michigan, and posted them to The Mustang Source. The clever camouflage hides much…but there are still a few tidbits we can gleam from these pictures.
The camouflage keeps from view the body parts most likely to receive an upgrade, namely the front and rear fascias, The roofline and windows look similar to what is already on today’s Mustangs, though the exhaust comes from the BOSS 302 Mustang as opposed to the standard GT. That could indicate that this is merely the next BOSS Mustang, out for a test drive.
There are other things not even camo can hide. For instance, it would seem that the new taillights sit straight up and down, as opposed to the current style, which sees the taillights leaning towards the front of the car. There also appears to be a significant bulge on the hood, whether that indicates some kind of scoop or cowl induction hood, nobody can say. But word on the street is that we don’t have to wait long, as Ford will be introducing the new look of the Mustang at the L.A. Auto Show in November. We certainly hope they do.
