Some people will do anything to get that rare, desirable, classic muscle car. While most people will pursue legitimate ways of obtaining their dream car, others decide that the only way to get that car is through theft. With the extravagant prices people will pay for rare muscle cars, such a theft can net tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Recently Mustang Evolution came across a story from WAtoday, an Australian news outlet, did a piece on a 1967 Shelby GT350 that was brazenly stolen by a squad of robbers. However, a GPS tracking system that had just been installed helped police soon recover the vehicle.
We’re not sure how tough times are down in Australia, but it sounds like they’re getting pretty desperate for horsepower down there. Six men broke into the unnamed-victim’s house and forced the owner to sign over his 1967 Shelby GT350. The article isn’t clear on whether or not it’s the real thing, but if it is, it’s easily a $200,000 car. Throw in importation costs and you’re talking a serious chunk of change. However, this particular car had been installed with a QuikTrak, a security system that includes both GPS and a fuel cut off system.
Apparently this system can even disable the brakes, but only the GPS system was used to track down the car to an auto salvage yard. We’re not sure somebody with an authentic GT350 would be installing such a system that was alter the car’s value; it is instead probably just a clone. Armored police were called in as the suspects were supposedly armed, but nobody has been taken into custody as of yet, but at least the victim got his Mustang back.
