Production of our favorite car began back in 1964, that’s forty-eight continuous years, almost five decades, of American Icon awesome-ness. However, among the awesome are a few that just aren’t so. The guys over at Jalopnik put together a list of The Ten Worst Special-Edition Mustangs according to their readers. Do you agree with any of these choices?

10. 1979 Mustang Pace Car
Coming in at number 10 is the 1979 Mustang Pace Car that was debuted after the death of the Mustang II. This Fox-platform Mustang is the Indy 500 pace car edition adorned with stripes and stickers.

9. California Special
A bit surprising, the California Special is up next. The GT/CS started back in 1968, and then was brought back for 2007 – 2009, and then back again in 2011 and is available for the current 2013 model. They aren’t anymore powerful than a GT, but they are cosmetically different. Not sure how it is uglier than a 1979 Pace Car, though.

8. Ski Country Special
The Ski Country Special was offered in 1967 and featured ski racks, snow tires, equalock rear axle, and a medallion. There were 247 of these special-edition Mustangs produced. These featured a 289ci 2v V8 Engine with 200-hp.

7. 1969 Mustang E
E is for Economy. Ford was able to sell a whopping fifty of these bad boys. It features in inline-6 and a monster 2.33:1 axle.

6. 20th Edition Shelby GT-350
This four-eyed Fox-Body tribute to the 20th anniversary of the GT-350 is a little off. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing car but it was available in a 302cid V8 or the 140cid Turbo four.

5. Ford Mustang Sprint
This gem of a Mustang came about in 1972 and was available in one patriotic package in honor of the 1972 Olympic USA Team. The Mustang wasn’t the only car to sport red, white, and blue, though. The Maverick and the Pinto were available in the same styling.

4. Ford Mustang Heat Edition
The Heat was available for 2007 and designed by Jack Roush and his team. It’s pretty much a stock GT with a few cosmetic mods slapped on.

3. King Cobra
The Mustang II is not everybody’s favorite Mustang, especially if it’s decked out in decals. This Mustang II performance model was released as the Mach 1 disappeared.

2. Mustang Ghia
Another Mustang II creation, the Mustang Ghia is holding down the number two spot on the list of ugliest Mustangs produced.

1. 1974 Mach 1
The ugliest car according to Jalopnik readers is the 1974 Mach 1. This was the start of the Mustang II Mach 1 and featured a 2.8 L V6 rated at 105 hp. It’s definitely not the prettiest of Mustangs. Is it worthy of number one?
