We’re hearing word that there may be an exciting added attraction for the Ford faithful at the NMRA World Finals in Bowling Green, KY this fall in the form of a “Terminator” and GT500 shootout contested along with the NMRA’s full slate of heads-up, index, and True Street categories.
This race-within-a-race would bring together the wicked 2007 to present supercharged Shelby GT500 Mustangs and the supercharged 2003-04 SVT Cobra’s, dubbed the “Terminators” in a heads-up no breakout affair on the Beech Bend Raceway quarter mile. The class would be reserved for non-tube chassis vehicles with any power adder combination and transmission allowable. As advertised, only true GT500’s and Cobra’s would be eligible to compete.
The Terminator class at the now-defunct World Ford Challenge was quite a hit, and with the GT500’s added in the mix, this could be one of the classes to watch at the biggest all-Ford drag race in the world. With a mostly run whatcha’ brung format in place for this special event, elapsed times in the eights and certainly in the nines would seem perfectly logical for the frontrunners with these powerful Mustangs.
We’ll have further details on this race as they become available.
