Between 1983 and 2009, Saleen performance built over 8,000 modified Mustangs. Even so, they had humble beginnings, crafting superior performance Mustangs with subtle exterior enhancements that even to this day make them desirable. Many celebrities bought Saleen Mustangs, including some famous car guys who obviously have good taste.

One such celebritiy/gearhead was Tim Allen, comedian and star of Home Improvement and movies like The Santa Clause. Up for sale on Hemmings is the one-off 1993 Saleen Mustang, “RRR.”

What does “RRR” stand for? If you recall, it was the catchphrase of Allen’s alter-ego, Tim “The Toolman” Taylor, a buffoonish home improvement show host. His sidekick was the ever-grumpy Al Borland. Home Improvement ran from 1991 until 1999, which means Allen picked this car up right around the time the show was peaking. It was also a chance to showcase Allen’s real-life love of automobiles, and his stage garage often included a hot rod or three.

This ’93 Saleen Mustang “RRR” (also called Casper because of its ghostly paintjob) has a heaping pile of improvements too. The 302 engine has been supercharged and worked over, producing an impressive 576 horsepower. A new 3.55 posi-traction rear end and a host of suspension improvements from coil-overs to control arms make this car a true track beast. Custom tweaks, like a carbon fiber hood, Thunderbird headlights, and a custom rear fascia indicate that this isn’t just any old Mustang.

The current owner who bought it from Allen in 1997 is offering it for sale at $85,000. Nobody said fame came cheap.
