We’re just three months from the official 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, and pony car enthusiasts across the country are (in some cases literally) gearing up for what promises to be the party of the year. The Mustang Club of America is helping throw not one but two celebrations, one in Las Vegas and the other in Charlotte, North Carolina.
That has both coasts covered, but what of those of you living in America’s heartland? Well the Mustang Club of America is also hosting its annual Great American Pony Drive, but with a twist. The 50th Anniversary Mustang Drive will begin in Norman, Oklahoma as usual, but will take drivers in opposite directions as one group heads east for Charlotte Motor Speedway, and the other goes west towards the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The Las Vegas stop will follow much of old Route 66, with stops in Amarillo, Texas, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Flagstaff, Arizona before swinging on up to Vegas. Meanwhile the Charlotte-bound drive will stop in Little Rock Arkansas, Nashville, Tennessee, and Asheville, North Carolina before making its way to the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Drivers can register to be a part of the drive and either meet up in Oklahoma, or join one of the pair of parades along the way. The pair of Pony Drives set out on April 13th and is set to arrive just in time for the beginning of festivities on Wednesday, April 16th, where vendors and exhibitors and of course Ford will be on hand to help throw one hell of an anniversary celebration. This could be the largest collection of Mustangs on the road at once ever. Do you plan on being a part of it?
