What’s the problem with today’s youth? It seems like kids these days are out of control; though we imagine every successive generation has said the same thing. Still, these days, kids are more into their iPhones than their cars – unless it’s the right car. It seems the Mustang still has the power to attract teenage car thieves, as two cases nearly 2,000 miles apart demonstrate. The Mercury News reports that three teenage girls stole a red Mustang as it was warming up early Monday morning. Meanwhile, across the country in Houston, Texas, My Fox Houston reports that two teenage girls and a boy also stole a red Mustang, totaling it in the resulting crash.
The first story comes from Watsonville, in the Silicon Valley. According to the Mercury News, the three teenage girls came across a red Ford Mustang warming up in the owner’s driveway. The girls stole the car, and police were dispatched to a hit-and-run call not long after. Police came across the car not far away and pulled it over, where two of the three underage female passengers fled. They didn’t make it far though, and the ‘96 Mustang was recovered intact, if slightly worse for wear.
The red Mustang down in Texas was a lot less lucky, unfortunately. A 17-year old boy “stole” the Mustang from his parents without permission. Along with two female passengers, the boy took off at a high rate of speed, before losing control and crashing the Mustang into a concrete culvert. That Mustang was, unfortunately, totaled.
What is it with teenagers stealing Mustangs? Kids these days.
