V8 Supercar Purists Have A Coyote-Powered Option

The spirit of driving is what we are all about. — Les Edgar, TVR

When the latest Ford GT took its bow, fans of snarling eight cylinders were taken aback. “A six-cylinder supercar?” they asked. Well, the performance of that car has quieted critics, but if you are looking for something really special that sports modern Coyote power, TVR in the United Kingdom has something for you — the 2018 Griffith.

“The spirit of driving is what we are all about, so that means, first and foremost, in all of our minds is to build a road-grade car that is superb and ticks all the TVR boxes,” said Les Edgar, Chairman of TVR Manufacturing Ltd.

It might not be all Ford, but the hand-built, carbon fiber-chassis’d TVR Griffith is a beautiful machine. For those wanting a V8-powered supercar, this UK-built machine might just be your answer. (Photo Credit: TVR)

We are incredibly excited to be unveiling the new car at the Goodwood Revival. — Les Edgar, TVR

The latest TVR was recently unveiled at the storied Goodwood Revival, and the new Griffith is the first TVR vehicle to be produced in nine years.

“We are incredibly excited to be unveiling the new car at the Goodwood Revival,” Les said before the reveal. “It’s the first time a global launch of a new car has occurred at the event, and it seems an entirely appropriate place for us to do it, with the marque’s motorsport heritage and an enthusiastic audience of dedicated car fans – and in our 70th anniversary year.”

For Ford fans the beauty is far more than skin deep as the TVR is powered by a Cosworth-massaged Coyote 5.0-liter pumping out 480 horsepower. It is equipped with dry-sump oiling system and numerous other upgrades. A custom clutch and flywheel joint the Coyote to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. Sounds like a familiar setup to Mustang enthusiasts.

2018 TVR Griffith Details

If you are wondering what the new Griffith brings to the table, here are a few of the important highlights, some converted into US units…

• 480 horsepower

• 2,755 pounds

• 200-plus-mph top speed

• Sub-4.0-second 0-60 mph

• Cosworth-enhanced Coyote 5.0-liter engine

• $118,000 starting price

• Carbon fiber chassis

• Production from late 2018

This beautiful, hand-built machine features a carbon-fiber chassis, which is plenty to get enthusiast hearts fluttering, but for Ford fans, the engine under the bonnet is what really gets that true-blue blood pumping. The latest Griffith is powered by a Coyote 5.0-liter upgraded by none other than Cosworth to produce 480 horsepower. A Tremec six-speed manual transmission resides behind the hopped-up 5.0-liter.

The company is taking preorders for the 500-unit Launch Edition run right here, so if you have £90,000 (or about $118,000) burning a whole in your pocket, you can have that Ford V8-powered supercar that you’ve been dreaming about.

We’ve driven a right-hand driver Mustang in the UK. Do you think TVR would toss us the keys to one of these?
