After being thwarted earlier this year by rain, Vaughn Gittin Jr. finally checked an amazing feat off his Professional Fun Haver bucket list. He became the first person to drift the entirety of the Nürburgring’s daunting, 12.9-mile, 73-turn Nordschleife, which Jackie Stewart nicknamed “the Green Hell.”

“Since its construction (1925-1927), the Nordschleife has enjoyed a reputation as a terrifying and merciless route through the Eifel forests,” says the track’s official site.

“The Nordschleife is one of, if not, the most iconic track in the world and I have been in love with the danger and folklore of the famous Green Hell at the Nürburgring since I can remember,” Vaughn said. “I finally went there in person in 2013 and it was then that I made a promise to myself that one day I would return to drift it in its entirety. Drifting the Nürburgring represents the ultimate challenge to me: it is something that many questioned whether it would be possible and whether the car and driver could do it and come out in one piece. Something inside of me had to take this on to find out. I didn’t go there for a lap time, I went for a good time!”

His chariot for this challenge is the demo version of his latest Mustang RTR drifter. This S550 delivers up to 900 horsepower courtesy of a Vortech JT-Trim-supercharged Ford Performance Aluminator XS 5.0-liter engine rocking a custom SCT Performance calibration and backed by a PPG Performance six-speed sequential manual transmission.

“I was out of my comfort zone for the majority of the hot laps,” Vaughn reflected. “I did not know the Green Hell nearly as well as I thought I did. Everything changes when you’re going sideways at those speeds. When we stopped for the first tire change I was elated. I had to catch my breath, which is something I have never experienced behind the wheel since I was a rookie in Formula Drift.”

With the challenging course in mind, it is not a surprise that this course proved daunting for a driver with the amazing car control gift that Vaughn has. We have ridden with him, so we know how relaxed he is behind the wheel, but this is a perilous path, and he takes it on with aplomb, putting his Nitto NT555 G2 tires through an extreme torture test along the lengthy run.

There will be an extended cut of the action released on the Monster Energy social channels on October 2. Meanwhile, Forza Motorsport and Pennzoil will also offer more action later in the fall. However, after watching that insane drift, the only question now is just how the Professional Fun Haver will top this feat.
