Back on the west coast for Formula DRIFT, hoonigan Vaughn Gittin Jr is definitely “in it to win it” with his Monster Energy / Falken Tire Mustang. He proved that he belongs on the top podium once again after dominating round 5. He threw down a great run at Evergreen Speedway, winning his second consecutive event. JR tackled everybody else and is now leading the pack with the most point standings in the Pro Championship.
During the final, Vaughn Gittin Jr and his Mustang took on Ryan Tuerck in the Retaks Nissan 240SX in a locked battle with JR ultimately taking the top spot. He also took the win during both the Pro Championship points standings and Tires.com Triple Crown. It was an action-packed event with only 62 points separating the top 5 drivers out there.
“I am just so pumped right now. We have been working so hard and have overcome the minor issues we had earlier this year and I owe this to my team and all my partners,” said Vaughn Gittin, Jr., winner of Round 5: Throwdown. “It just feels so good to re-focus and drive my heart out and stand on top of the podium!”
Only two events remain and competition is pretty fierce. Round 6 for the Formula DRIFT Championship is coming August 24 – 25th at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and anything can happen. After 5 events under the belt, the two Mustangs are in the number one and number three spots. Vaughn Gittin Jr is holding down number one with 391 points, however Daigo Saito in the Achilles Tire / Bridges Racing Lexus SC430 is not trailing far behind with 383.50 Points. Holding the third podium spot is our other Mustang boy, Justin Pawlak in the Falken Tire ‘Stang with 376 Points.
Can’t wait to see what happens during the next go around! Stay tuned.
