The new BOSS 302 Mustang is in many ways a superior muscle car to the base GT; from the suspension to the interior to the extra 20-something horsepower the new intake manifold adds. But how does that translate on the dragstrip? After all, the BOSS 302 is more of a road course car., whereas the GT model is more of an all-around contender.
American Muscle and Bama Performance took to the track to find out in this five-minute video, with two equally-matched Mustangs lining up to see which is faster: a mildly-modded Mustang GT, or a similarly-modded BOSS 302.
The drivers for this event were American Muscles’ Brick (“The Racer”) who lined up in his BOSS 302 Mustang. The mod list is pretty basic: a JLT CAI, Kooks longtube headers and high-flow catted X-pipe, a Maganaflow cat-back exhaust, Bama 93 octane tune, short-throw shifter and Nitto NT05R tires. A healthy list, no doubt.
The Mustang GT, driven by Mike Wilson of Bama Performance, was similarly equipped, sans the exhaust system (instead it had just an off-road X-pipe). It did however have a BOSS intake installed and Nitto NT555R rear tires, but unlike the BOSS it was an automatic transmission. Still, the race was much closer than you’d think. We won’t spoil the contest, only to say that it came down to a few tenths of a second, and in the end, it came down to the last race. Check the video out.
