The Ford SVT Raptor is a major departure from the sport trucks of the past. Ford’s most famous effort is the Lightning pickup, which was all about going fast in a straight line, and looking good doing it. The Ford SVT Raptor is an entirely different beast, built with off-roading and rough trails in mind. And it’s a damn good effort, made all the better by improvements for the 2012 model.

Ford has released this video of the new 2012 SVT Raptor in action. There’s less jumping than in previous videos, but still some good all-around off-roading action.

The video highlights many of the improvements for 2012, which include a new Torsen front differential that should send more torque to the front wheels when asked. Other improvements include a front-mounted camera, linked to the interior LCD screen, to give driver’s an idea of how big the rock they’re about to bottom out on is.

The slower pace of the video is probably indicative of the issues Ford SVT Raptor owners were having with the bent truck bed from too much jumping at too high of speeds. Instead of jumping there is a lot of mudding, drifting, and hill climbing/descending. Still looks like fun if you ask us…but jump at your own peril.
