An engine needs just three things to make horsepower; air, fuel, and spark. Without spark, the air and fuel would merely mix together, and nothing exciting would happen. The right spark plugs are key for any engine, and 2010 Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin Jr. is a big fan of Bosch spark plugs, which he ran in his Formula Drift 5.0 Mustang.
So it makes sense that Gittin and Bosch are teaming up to build a one-off Iridium Edition RTR Mustang that will be given away to one lucky winner.
The car is called the Iridium Edition on account of it being built to celebrate Bosch’s new Iridium spark plugs. Iridium is the second-densest metal, and the most corrosion-resistant of any element, though it is a fairly rare element as well. As a spark plug, Iridium provides up to four times the life of a standard spark plug, with better ignitability and lower voltage demand. It is designed for both high performance, and durability, and Bosh thinks highly enough of this spark plug to produce a car to show it off.
Details of the car and contest are coming soon, but we do get a brief view of Vaughn Gittin and a co-designer sitting in front of a computer, playing with different looks and options for this car. It’s kind of neat, and we hope there are more videos to go along with this contest, which is as simple as liking Bosch Auto Parts on Facebook and filling out an entry form, one per day. Bosch will be releasing regular updates on the build throughout the contest, so stay tuned to see this sick ride as it comes together.
