Lucky Mustang racers across the country have been taking delivery of their 2012 Cobra Jet Mustangs these last few months. Enough time has elapsed that the engine gurus have had a chance to tinker with these marvels of modern engineering. After all, in the world of racing, there is no such thing as “too much power.” So you better believe these guys with these Cobra Jets are doing whatever it takes to extract the most horsepower possible. But this isn’t a 2012 Mustang, it’s Tasca’s 2010 and it’s the fastest in the country.
So it is no surprise that Carl Tasca of the famous Tasca family out of Rhode Island can be seen in this YouTube video flying through the gears of his new Cobra Jet. Damn that thing is fast!
For those Mustang fans who have been caught living under a rock for the last few months, the 2012 Cobra Jet Mustang saw a number of important changes to make it the quickest production Mustang ever. Chief among these changes was the use of an aluminum engine block, which lightens the nose of the CJ significantly, meaning faster times and more top speed. Rated at up to 500 horsepower from the factory, we’re not sure what changes (if any) Tasca’s crew chief made to the engine, but this is supposed to be the stock suspension setup.
If that’s the case, it looks like there are a lot of wheelies in Carl Tasca’s future. Unfortunately, the video does not show the timeboard at the end of the track after this magnificent run, but we already know that from the Factory, the Cobra Jet is capable of running 9’s. Just how fast Tasca’s Cobra Jet will be is up to his team, but as long as they keep pulling wheelies like that, we don’t think there will be too many disappointed fans.
