Straight from the factory, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 makes impressive power. Ford claims at the flywheel, the Mustang makes 412 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque. Of course they must meet certain fuel efficiency and emissions standards. Once it rolls off the dealership floor, the engine can be tuned and tweaked. Turns out there is a lot of horsepower hiding in that 5.0 engine.
DiabloSport took this video of a stock 2011 Ford Mustang GT strapped to the dyno, followed by one which had been tuned by their Trinity touchscreen tuner. The horsepower and torque gains are impressive to say the least.
In order to get the most honest assessment of horsepower possible, DiabloSport first ran a 2011 Ford Mustang GT for one week on premium 93 octane fuel. After a week, they took it to the dyno for a baseline run. 100% stock with the factory tune, the Mustang made 370 horsepower and 329 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels, lending credence to rumors that Ford actually under advertised the horsepower of the new 5.0 engine.
Then DiabloSport hooked up their Trinity Tuner and got to tweaking. Without making any other changes (and maintaining the factory warranty), the Trinity-tuned Mustang made 392 horsepower, 22 more than stock at the wheels. Those are good numbers to be sure, but it is the torque that made the biggest jump. It went from 329 to 377 ft-lbs of torque, a whooping 48 ft-lbs of torque increase. Again, this was an otherwise 100% car!
Ford was holding back on us after all, but DiabloSport has the key to unlocking that extra performance.
