The whole big wheel craze isn’t exactly a recent development, although it certainly seems to have become more prevalent in recent years. Some cars take well to big wheels, including today’s muscle cars, though others look more ridiculous than righteous (that’s still a cool word, right?) But how do big wheels stand up on older muscle cars? Depends on who you ask.
If you ask the Commander of the Cobra Cartel, he’d probably tell you that Fox-body Mustangs look awesome on 22-inch rims. Then he’d do donuts on your lawn and steal your lunch money too. Probably. Based on what we saw in this video (which is NSFW due to some naughty language).
According to the info, the Mustang here is a very clean looking ‘86 Mustang GT. The Mustang looks clean and sounds good, and then our hero car disappears for a moment, preparing to test out his new SN-95 5-lug conversion, which seems to have come with 22-inch wheels.
Then things get hairy. After a double backfire that sounds like gunshots in a neighborhood that looks used to them, the Cartel Commander starts doing donuts in the middle of an intersection. We’re all for some good old fashioned hooning, but then a car comes along, the burnout continues, and the Cartel Commander takes off down the street. And the video ends with the sound of police sirens taking off after the Mustang with the oversized rims. Ridiculous, yet entertaining.
The real question here though; can a Fox-body Mustang wear 22’s?
