Race car carnage is certainly one of the last things anyone wants to see or experience, and the racing weekend saw it’s share of it. And one of those who had a weekend they’d just rather forget was Mike Brown, at the wheel of the Harrell and Brown Outlaw 10.5 Mustang, during the Saturday Night Shootout held at the Silver Dollar Raceway down in Reynolds, Georgia over the weekend.
While facing Danny Lowry, Brown’s twin-turbocharged, Proline-powered mount erupted in flames just as it crossed the stripe at the conclusion of an adventurous lap to the eighth mile finish stripe, the flames growing larger as Brown attempted to bring the burning machine to a halt as the smoke hindered his view in the nighttime conditions.
After making contact with the guardrail in the opposite lane in front of Lowry, Brown’s Mustang comes to rest, still engulfed in flames and growing by the second After several tense seconds (32 seconds by our count), Brown emerges unscathed out the passenger door.
Images taken following the fire and crash display a shockingly untouched and undamaged cockpit – a stark contrast from the charred remnants on the opposite side of the firewall.
